Everything after the screenshot matters.

01

Capture the exact thing

Area, window, fullscreen, previous region, scrolling capture, and OCR text extraction are all available from global shortcuts.

02

Annotate without friction

Add arrows, shapes, text, highlighter strokes, blur, pixelation, numbered markers, and crops in a focused native editor.

03

Move the result anywhere

Copy, save, edit, pin, close, or drag the quick access overlay directly into Finder, Slack, or another app.

04

Keep the workflow local

Export PNG, JPEG, or WebP, auto-copy, auto-save, launch at login, and browse your capture history locally.

Native rhythm

A capture flow that ends where your work continues.

Shotnix keeps the post-capture choices close instead of forcing every screenshot through the same save dialog.

FAQ

Questions before you install.

Is Shotnix really free?

Yes. Shotnix is 100% free and open source under the MIT license. No subscription, no account, and no paywall.

What can Shotnix capture?

Shotnix supports area, window, fullscreen, previous area, scrolling capture, and OCR text extraction on macOS.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Shotnix is a native macOS app and the core capture, annotation, history, export, and pinning workflow is local.

Why does macOS show a warning?

Shotnix is currently a beta build and is not yet notarized, so macOS may show a first-launch Gatekeeper prompt.

"Shotnix" is damaged and can't be opened. What should I do?

This can happen because Shotnix is currently unsigned and macOS quarantines unsigned apps by default. After installing Shotnix, run this command in Terminal:

xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Shotnix.app

If the command is blocked, give Terminal Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security, then run it again.

Which macOS version do I need?

Shotnix targets macOS 13 and newer.

Can I use it for work?

The project is MIT licensed, which allows free personal and commercial use, subject to the license terms.
